    Very nice experience and staff and beer and burgers. I have to first say that I was here with a group of 30 that popped in with 30 min notice so.....keep that in mind as you read this review. We descended on this place during a baseball tournament and I called ahead to see if they could accommodate us and they said they would try their best. And they did. Thanks Brittany and Carissa and staff for getting us in. The space is pretty cool and well laid out with regular seating, high tops, outside seating and nice big bar area and waiting area. Which is important as it seems like this is a hopping place with a younger crowd as one would expect given the craft brew millennial craze. It's a real brewery and not one of those that pretends to be. You can see the vats and loading docks as they must bottle and ship their brews. They have plenty of great tasting beers so you can't go wrong. I tried their grapefruit brew which was good but I have had better. My favorite was the British Pale Ale....which is not as pale as you might think. Overall....the adults in the party had a great time sampling all the brews. Food was solid with a limited menu. I think the burgers were the best so I would go that direction. Great atmosphere, great brewskis, and great burgers. Would definitely come again....maybe with a smaller group! Cheers!

    This was a cool place with decent beer. Went in with a group of 4 and we all ordered burgers. One of the burgers came out a good 10-15 minutes before the others. We finally had to ask if the other 3 would be out anytime soon. They magically appeared a short time later. My fellow diners enjoyed their burgers, but nothing really stood out. I ordered the spent grain burger. What a mistake!! There were at least a dozen whole cloves on the burger. I learned this the hard way...by biting into my burger and getting a mouthful of clove. I chose to pick them off and make the best of it. After our meal I pointed out the pile of cloves on my plate to our waitress and asked if the burger was always covered in cloves. I was told those are just one of the grains chosen for the burger. When did cloves become a grain? I know some beers are brewed with cloves, but how common is this in spent grain? The spent grain was in the patty, only cloves were present outside of the patty. I believe the cloves were probably used in the pickling spice for the onions on this burger and not removed. Biting into a whole clove destroyed my tastebuds for the rest of the meal (and any additional beers). The clear lack of knowledge on the waitress's part certainly didn't help matters. With a menu limited to a handful of burgers and reubens you should be doing them right. Perrin isn't.

    Ok Perrin, I want to LOVE you really I do but lets face it you are making it difficult. To start off, if you are just looking for beer they get 5 stars, Perrin's beers are excellent no complaints (except the seasonal Kona thing but I digress) Now lets talk food OK? To put it bluntly, Perrin your food needs help. I ordered the bbq chicken panini without onions. (I can't eat onions) it came out with them , so I sent it back. Sandwich # 2 came out no onions but the bread was COLD, not like room temp cold but like "we pre-press all the bread and store it in the fridge cold" I couldn't believe it, Attempt # 3 came so late that the rest of my party was done. So much no. Your menu at face value is fantastic, but if its not executed correctly what's the point??? So here I am reheating last night's dinner satisfied with beer but feeling HANGRY for food! It's unfortunate because I would have liked another beer but hunger won out and we left. Perrin you brew my favorite beer of all time. Help me help you! Seriously. I will be back in the fall when Kona is back, please please use the summer wisely. Get that food truck of yours and get some people in there who actually care about what they are doing. Please?

    Such a pleasant surprise! This place is outstanding, from the decor to the beer to the creativity of the menu. We had a blast! Oddly, I chose to order a Cobb salad to enjoy with several beers (all outstanding), but it was probably the best salad I've had in GR. I say oddly because we were seated in view of the super cool indoor food trailer (aka kitchen) that was churning out some exquisite-looking monstrosities of burgers left and right, but due to the warm evening, even my carnivorous boyfriend went for a fresh salad. He too left quite satisfied. All the same, we shall be back to try the burgers at what is now our new favorite watering hole. Extra points for the hops outside, and extra points for giving me a break from downtown.

    Perrin Brewing was stop four on our Beercation. We'd never have known about this brewery had it not been for Mongolian Barbeque in Dearborn. They had a keg of Perrin's excellent Grapefruit IPA, which put the brewery on our radar. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and were seated immediately. I believe Perrin does communal service, as several servers came to our table throughout our visit. Jacob ordered a flight of six beers and enjoyed all of them. Again, no ciders or liquor, so I was out of luck. I wish they had their delicious Grapefuit IPA on tap, but alas, no such luck. We decided to get some lunch. Their food menu is pretty limited. I went with the kid's chicken tender meal and a cup of chili and Jake got a coney dog. The chili was woefully underseasoned to the point I had to add a ton of salt and pepper, and even so, it didn't taste like much. I didn't eat it. The chicken tenders were huge (you get three big tenders and fries for $4) but they also didn't have flavor. Bottom line: stick to what you know to be good, otherwise, eat before visiting. The service was good and our stay was pleasant. Jake really likes Perrin's brews, so we'll definitely visit again.

    Solid all around! Starting from the warm reception from the hostess, to the great beer recommendations, they were top knotch the whole way. Sam and Ethan were both nice, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful regarding questions I had. The Cajun style shrimp w sweet banana rice was a unique twist on boring old rice and tasted incredible. My girlfriend's BLT w pork belly bacon was PACKED w bacon! Seriously, like a whole piglet. We'll definitely be back, but next time we're getting the 'Around the World' beer flight. Yep, exactly what you think it is.

    I use to love this place.....but they change the menu!!!!!!!!! NO ONION RINGS ANYMORE!!!!!!!!! They were the best in grand rapids. I can just say the good beer you can find anywhere in GR def they are out of my list and its sad because they really close from my work

    Perrin is a super cool place with a great beer selection (loved the Veterans Pale Ale) with a nice, unique burger menu. But the staff left a ton to be desired. I sat at the bar on a Wednesday evening, not real busy at all, and got spotty service at best. My first beer was completely empty as I was eating, and at least 4 servers walked by without asking if I needed a refill. The reason...they were too busy worrying about their new SnapChats. This continued throughout the entire time I was there. I want to LOVE this brewery, but c'mon, acknowledge your freaking customers!

    I took my 10-year-old to a bar, at 1120 am.... Yep. I did. I bought him a Reuben and sweet potato fries, let him sit next to a really cool mural of Michigan, and had a great time! His sandwich was excellent, too big even for a growing boy. The sweet fries were incredible! I'd recommend them in a second. Skip the mac&cheese though. It just isn't good. Service was excellent. Daniel was a fine server, and we were visited by 3 other employees over the course of the meal to make sure things were great. We'll probably go back. One guy told bus cool boys with long hair are welcome day or night, so we'll go for those sweet potato fries again!

    This place has some of the best on tap beer in Michigan! There's tons of breweries in Grand Rapids, sure, but this one packs the best line up of beers of any of them, even Founders (and I'm a Founders fan). Every beer I can drink and is perfect, DON'T CHANGE that Perrin. At Founders, I only like one or two of their year-round beers, but Perrin seriously has the best everyday lineup. The service is always fantastic. The food options are a little short, but hey, we're here for the beer right? I wish they'd open a tap room downtown near the other breweries so I didn't have to drive as far and so I could spend the entire night here! (HINT HINT PERRIN!) Excellent beer, service. You should go here.

    Perrin USED to be a great place to eat and drink. I was very disappointed with my last visit when I saw the menu has completely changed. The burgers used to be amazing, and they had tasty fries and a homemade corndogs! The burger I had was bland and the fries were cold and nothing special. Friends that came with me used to get the corn dog were very disappointed to see it was no longer on the menu. One person in our party requested a substitute for one of the burgers and the server told her she couldn't do that. I love Perrin beer, but honestly, because it is so far away from my house and the food is terrible, I won't be back and I'll get the beer on tap elsewhere. It is really too bad things a have changed so much after the business was sold.

    Enjoyed everything about this place. The food is delish. Burgers (Black and Blue and BLT) and homemade chips were awesome. They have a few salads and small plates as well as good veggie options. The Beer! The beer is really good. Didn't get to go all the way around the world but did try a few. No Rules just may be the best beer I have ever had. 15% Porter made in Buffalo Trace barrels with maple and cocoanut. Great breakfast beer. The Blackberry IPA is good too. Glad they had those in cans so we could take some to go. Will make a point to stop here more often even though it is out in the boonies. Thanks Perrin!!

    We were in the area on business and this place was recommended to us. It was a great recommendation! The beer was great. Even the ones that weren't up our alley, were great! We settled on the Stoutwood and now that I'm back in Nashville (TN), I'm already missing it. Sadly, we didn't get to try the Porter (my business partner's favorite kind of beer) because they had run out the night before. We'll save that for next trip! We started out with the onion rings, which were the food highlight of the night! Crispy, fresh, and the sauce had the perfect bite. I got the apple burger and sweet potato fries. The burger was good. I liked the taste of the sauteed apples on it! The sweet potato fries were good, but not the best I ever had. My partner felt the same about his burger which had a pickled egg and avocado on top. Good, but not the best ever. The service was great. It wasn't super busy, but they were definitely hoppin'. Food came out great, the waitstaff was friendly and helpful. We'll definitely go back if we're in the neighborhood again!

    Wide variety of excellent beers, delicious food, and good service. I had the portobello burger with chips and side slaw. Flavorful, marinated mushroom with fresh and delicious toppings on a perfectly toasted bun: very good. The pickled slaw was fantastic, although slightly too heavy on cumin. I'd upgrade from the chips to the fries, though. Chips were heavy, greasy and overcooked, but my friends' fries were excellent. As others note, the beers are top notch. Nothing to add there! The atmosphere is not quite as warm and inviting as most of the brewpubs in the area, but the quality of the food and beer makes up for it, and it's definitely worth the trip.

    The beer is stellar. If it was just beer, I'd give it 5-stars absolutely. This focuses more on the restaurant. The decor is nothing special, it's an old industrial building. It's clean, spacious, but nothing special. We went at night so we couldn't see the beer brewing process, so it was just a large sparse building. The food was a bit disappointing. We ordered the chicken pineapple eggrolls, which were bland. The inside seemed to just be ground chicken, with a hint of other flavors. There was a pineapple salsa that came with the three large perfectly fried eggrolls, but they were very stingy with the salsa which was unfortunate considering the size of the eggrolls, and that the salsa was the only portion of the dish that had much flavor. We ordered two different burgers which were unique, but just weren't that good. They were not worth the $10 asking price. They were okay, just kind of disappointing. There was also a $2 upgrade to fries. The fries were not good. They just dropped some GFS fries in the deep fryer. No seasoning, no batter, nothing approaching flavor. All in all, I was disappointed. I'll give it one more try again sometime, as the beer was great. They also seem to have some pretty decent specials depending on day and time.

    Newer up start brewing company that did it right from the beginning . Great beer, great bar food and outstanding service. Founders use to be my place to go when I'm in GR . But they expanded their business and forgot that their customers made them what they are . and right now their customer service is subpar. Perrin brewing is simple and straight forward with their beers and food . Just a good experience in flavor from start to finish.

    Great beer selection, beautiful grounds and overall great experience the many times I've been there. Found out when I went yesterday that due to new management, their menu has drastically changed. There is very little selection; burgers or ruebans. This is so disappointing and my experience has been less enjoyable due to this. Hoping for some change in the near future!

    I think this is my favorite brewery in the Grand Rapids area. Sorry Founders, but Perrin is much more consistent in availability of rarer beers! Perrin, while still not bottling most of their beers, has taken off in Michigan and they have a little bit of everything. Ever since I tried their Grapefruit IPA, I have been hooked on their beer. The brewery is like most in the area, industrial feeling with plenty of seating and a large bar. They have a daunting list of in-house beers that should be able to satisfy any taste, and a food menu that has solid bar food along with daily specials. The biggest downside to Perrin is their free-for-all seating. They are slowly starting to direct traffic within the pub, but on a busy night, the free-for-all seating can cause some competitiveness with other patrons. Growler prices, like most breweries, are high. I still don't understand why growlers always cost more than a six-pack (granted they don't bottle here) when you literally are cutting out the middle man; however, Perrin's beers are worth the price.

    Great beers, definately stand out from most breweries. Single Origin is one of the most unique and delicious beers I've ever had. The food is almost as good of the beer, get the mac and cheese you will love it. Bottom line these folks are real beer lovers, they aren't just out to make money off of pretentious IPA lovers.

    Very good service from our "team" of servers. Had a very good olive burger and the buffalo chicken sandwich. Pretty good burger, just as anticipated. The buff chick sand (see pic) was not the norm, and that was wonderful. Thin chicken breast (not a big fan of too much meat), grilled, then coated w frank's based buffalo sauce, mild Swiss tomato (on the side), little ranch or b.c. dressing, omitted lettuce - very good. App of two pretzels w mustard (upgraded to add pub cheese fondue of some kind - good choice). Pretzels hot and just right - soft in the middle, steaming hot, chewy crust, just the right amount of fine grind (kosher ?) salt. Yummy and great w a couple Perrin pilsner. (See pic again). This is a bit of a drive (7 miles from downtown GR) but a great atmosphere, reminiscent of a barn in the country, but with the new-ness and sparkle of a brewing room, and the bonus of a motivated and knowledgeable staff. Notice the second pic - growlers off cold Perrin ready to go in my personalized growler holder. Holder $46, Not yet avail in gift area (near bar), but was able to purchase from a local, disabled vendor attempting to persuade manager to stock and sell. Not sure how that's going, but doesn't matter much - I got mine. Nice feature - there's enough room for my growler koozies. Hopefully they're for sale begins the bar next visit looks like a cool gift for my bros.

    My associate and I have visited Perrin Brewing Company on a number of occasions, and on more than one have remarked that we should return on a Tuesday for their BBQ Tuesday special. As pulled pork is a staple menu item for nearly every self-respecting brewpub in the area, we've taken to trying the different ones that each establishment has to offer. What further enticed us to attend BBQ Tuesday was Perrin's vegetarian offering of pulled eggplant. My associate and I are fans of the fruit and imagined its flavor and texture would manifest well in the form of a stringy, tender meat alternative. We finally attended BBQ Tuesday at Perrin Brewing Company this Tuesday and were not impressed by either dish. Not even for the sweet price of $5 each. The primary source of my disappointment was the pulled eggplant, which was not what its name suggests at all. Rather than a meatless imitation of pulled pork, it was a very thick slice of eggplant dipped in batter, fried, slapped on a cheap white-bread hamburger bun, and drizzled with barbecue sauce. I wouldn't have minded this at all if it was what was presented on the menu. But what I envisioned as an imaginative, vegetarian-friendly dish arrived on my plate in a form not dissimilar to the disturbing, perfectly circle-shaped chicken patties I consumed as a tasteless sixth grader. This sandwich looked like a middle school cafeteria menu item. And it didn't taste much better. The soggy fried eggplant and my deflated expectations were enough to make me stomach only half of the sandwich and satiate the remainder of my appetite with burnt sweet potato fries dipped in garlic mayonnaise aioli. My associate's pulled pork was served on the same cheap hamburger bun. It was greasy and over-seasoned. Probably one of the least impressive pulled pork sandwiches we've had. Granted, they were $5 each. Maybe that means my associate and I shouldn't have expected high-quality dishes. But we've had specials at this establishment before that were beyond satisfactory. Their kielbasa and sauerkraut with pierogi was top tier, and I don't even like kielbasa or sauerkraut. There does exist some genius on Perrin Brewing Company's menu--you just have to hope you find it when you order. TL;DR The pulled eggplant is a lie. It isn't at all like this completely feasible vegetarian imitation pulled pork: chubbyvegetarian.blogspo… . It is instead just a giant slab of fried eggplant slathered with BBQ sauce on a cheap hamburger bun. The beers were alright. We had an excellent server who was prompt and responded to our every need. On the whole, Perrin is not a terrible establishment, but some more consistency in food quality would make it excellent.

    This is probably the only local brewery I hadn't been to. The beer was decent but the food left a lot to be desired. Burgers were all over cooked but the fries/chips were great. I recommend Single Origins to drink. I'll be back.

    Great atmosphere - quaint and quiet and just off the main road so if you don't know about it you won't see it; the names and beer descriptions are a riot! Tried to check-in & add rev but no service. Taco special night - nice but no cilantro warning (I'm not a fan but for those who are will be happy). Got the sampler set and waited to long to review so forgot my favs (Think was "Ain't no Sunshine")! Grapefruit was unique, nice and refreshing.Wish they exported but so far they're sticking to local (Yes, I asked). Bonus to the night was a firefly show (was the first I'd seen in the area over 4 days).

    I heard good things about this brewery and for the most part, the praise for it matched my experience. On a sunny fall day, we took the 15 minute drive from downtown Grand Rapids to Comstock Park, where the brewery is located. We arrived about 10 minutes before opening and there were other cars waiting in the parking lot for it to open, which I took as a good sign. Parking is ample and there appears to be room on the side street to park if needed. The brewery has a covered outside porch with heat lamps and an inside restaurant area with the bar and high top tables. It appears there is an upstairs area for private seating, which I made a mental note to remember in case I needed a spot for a birthday party or event. The décor is a mix of industrial meets county with bard-wood-like tables, steel accents, wood floors, and chalk boards with events and what's on tap. I've seen other breweries designed and decorated this way so I wasn't blown away with the creativity of its styling. Still, it was clean, tidy, and bright with allot of natural light coming in. Once seated with menus, I ordered the malted milk ball imperial porter and my hubs got the Peace Out Stout. The Peace Out Stout was one of the beers I initially passed over based on the hazy description in the menu, but in trying his, I realized I liked it. True to its somewhat subjective description, it is simply a stout. We both ordered The Pacifist flatbread sandwiches. I will eat just about anything on Naan flatbread so this veggie plate was a no brainer based on that (even if it was one of the few vegitarian offerings). I got sweet potato fries and he got onion rings as sides. The fries were really flavorful with the seasoning and salt added. The onion rings were heavily breaded making them super crunchy. The pesto on the flatbrad added a nice kick. Even with the decour as just ho-hum and just a few vegitarian options, I would still come back for a lunch or early dinner. My personal concern would be the drive between Grand Rapids and this brewery if I wanted to make it a late night. For those living closer to the brewery, this may not be an issue for you.

    I would say expect a wait on Friday/ Saturday night in the summer . It is really large inside though . They have really great beer, good prices , good food, and good service. I also liked the music and acoustics , they have TVs but it's not a sports bar. They sells and refill growlers. Nice window to the brewing operations . The also have s patio that they can open to outside of weather co operates. Overall I love this place and I don't know where else you can buy there beers right now. Go for it!

    Ok so I love Perrin beer. It is my go to. But my mom ordered one of their weekly specials and hated it. She never complains about anything. Ever. In my 26 years of existence. It is called Mediterranean angel pasta. Don't order it. It is nothing like it's description. Then when she told the waitress she didn't like it and wanted to change her order she had to wait over an hour to get her new order. We were all done and ready to go yet the food for her was still not done. We asked our waitress the progress of our order and she said she didn't know because she doesn't go in the kitchen but would tell the manager to come over. 20 mins later and still no manager... Let's see what happens! Oh and happy Mother's Day mom! Sorry your first time at Perrin was this horrible! :(

    You have a baby!? In a bar!? In Grand Rapids, when you contact a brewery to see about hosting a baby shower, they don't bat an eye. For several months ahead of time, Kelly was very kind and easy to work with over email as I reserved Perrin's loft space for our party and tried to sort out what to order for our group. Yesterday about an hour before the party, we saw the space for the first time, set up our little decorations, and had lunch before the guests arrived. The beer is EXCELLENT. I tried Single Track, Rain Dancer, and Li'l Grizz, and enjoyed them all (with Li'l Grizz being my favorite). Our sandwiches and chips were pretty good--hitting the spot for a reasonable price, though overall we thought everything was a little on the salty side (eh, just wash it down with another beer ;) ). I like to try the turkey reuben everywhere I go, and this was not the best one I have had in my life, but it got the job done. The loft space is fantastic--loved the giant, rustic wood tables and leather chairs, and the life size nude chrome lady lamp in the corner was a charming touch. :) Nice view of the big screens at either end of the bar so you don't miss a minute of your Wolverines. The loft is meant to hold up to 35 people seated, and I can see how that would work, if all 35 of them were actually seated the entire time and being served at the table. But for a group to mingle, help themselves to drinks and appetizers, etc., as we did, that would be pretty tight. We had about 15 in our group and it felt just right, but I'm not sure I would want to try to fit many more into that space! The staff were all excellent. We were mostly served by Kevin and Kayleigh, who were extremely thoughtful and accommodating as we were getting set up--turning up the very atmospheric lighting for us and putting water in our flower vases, in addition to setting up the drinks and food we ordered and checking in on us throughout the event. Even though we hung around later than we really should have, they did not rush us out at the end of the party, which we really appreciated--I hope we didn't put them out as they headed toward their Saturday night dinner rush. All in all: OK food, great location/space/atmosphere, extremely attentive and responsive staff, EXCELLENT beer. It worked out great for our party and I hope we'll be back next time we're in Grand Rapids!

    New menu recently, so many sandwiches and their awesome sweet potato fries are gone! Supporting local producers is admirable but if food selection is compromised, we will visit much less often. Two stars because the beer is still great.

    Judging from the façade of the building, one wouldn't expect much from this brewpub. But once you enter the front doors, you are immersed in a contemporary setting serving excellent beer and food. Although the concrete floors and minimalist décor can create a noisy room on busy nights. I ordered the burger which was excellent- juicy and cooked expertly, and the Grapefruit IPA made for an excellent pairing. The service was attentive, yet slow, due to there being a line out the door on a Saturday evening. Don't let that scare you off. Food: A Service: A- Atmosphere: A-

    This place is fantastic! The beer is phenomenal, and the food is not bad either! I came here first when it opened, and it was love at first sip. The food, the first time I came here, compared with other breweries was not that great; however, something happened recently. They revamped their menu, and shot this place up to a "gastro-pub" level of excellence. Quite impressed! While they have them, their barrel aged line-up is great! Be sure to grab a snifter (and a designated driver) and chill out :)

    This place is HUGE. Tons of tables, decent sized bar and lots of merchandise for sale. -We had a snack here ..fried pickles and onion rings. Both were very great and came with great sauces. -As for the beer we tried just about all of them on the massive beer list. The Rye Wine was strong not bad, Golden Ale usual taste but good, Raspberry Blonde not bad, Amber was light and good, Gateway XPA was very nice, Pale Ale was very nice, Peace Out stout was smokey not bad, Grapefruit IPA tasted a lot like grapefruit which I'm not a huge fan of so I didn't love this beer, the IPA was tasty I liked it, Black Manifesto was very good, and the Rapture Strong Ale was different but good. -Overall the place is out of the way but I highly recommend this brewery, lots of good beer, good food, nice atmosphere, plenty of parking...check them out!

    The bartenders and staff here were fantastic, helping out with suggestions for food and beer, as well as samples and descriptions of each brew. The bartender and I agreed that blue cheese is great, so he suggested the black and blue burger. Man...easily in my top three burgers ever. And what can I say about the beer? Tried seven with the sampler (you're not limited to a certain number, just check off what you want). Everything is good. If you're in the area and you love beer, you must go to Perrin!

    The wife and I visited PBC on our way back from picking berries at a nearby farm. We had gone to another restaurant the night before and our waiter suggested we check it out since I enjoyed the Grapefruit IPA so much. The service is a little odd since they have a team of waiters that wait on the tables instead of a single waiter for each table, but the service was still great. I had a few samples of their brews, some were good some didn't work for me. We ended up taking a growler of the Perrin Gold home with us as it was my favorite. We also had the pretzels, which have to be the best pretzels I've ever had. Their homemade honey mustard was phenomenal. A great brewery and a good time. We wish it was closer to us, but it's a must visit if you live anywhere near there or find yourself in that neck of the woods.

    Well, we had over an hour wait. After we ordered food it was another 45 minutes for our appetizers. Then 3 minutes after that they brought out our food. We were with a group of 8 and they forgot someone's food. The waiter never apologized, didn't seem too concerned. The manager then brought out the food and apologized. We were expecting it to be off the check as it came 25-30 minutes after we had ordered & everyone else was done, but nope still on there. We requested it taken off, and it was. The beer was alright. Nothing super special. The Perrin Gold tasted like Miller Lite, if that tells you anything. The food was okay. In my opinion, this place is nothing special and I'll probably never go back.

    We took a vacation to Grand rapids because beer. We hit Hopcat and Founders (which I love, and had visited before in the past.) At hopcat, they had 2 different Perrin brews on tap. The Imperial Stout, and the Wood Aged 1885 Kona. After trying the Wood Aged 1885 Kona, I knew that I wanted to see the Perrin Brewpub in person. The Wood Aged 1885 Kona is not a super intense mega stout of colossal proportions. It is instead, a beautifully balanced, and wonderfully tasting, porter. It's so delicious, that I suspect that magic was involved in the brewing process. I dare say I may even consider this to be as delicious as KBS, though very very different indeed. Anyhow, the fact that this Wood aged 1885 Kona was as good as it was, forced me to buy a growler to take home. Also, they had a raspberry beer on tap called "raspberry blonde" It is the 1st beer my fiancee actually truly liked to the point of drinking a full pint and then having a second. Her "favorite" beer before that was the raspberry from founders (not as good though), or Sahtea by Dogfish Head ... Anyhow ... At Perrin I also had their Stoutwood, and their malted milk ball barrel aged something or other .. but ... this 1885 Kona, it was just so fvcking unbelievably tasty, it was like nothing else. Ohh yes, they had food too, and the food was good. They had real tacos and they were excellent. I wish they had Al Pastor, but their steak was good and seasoned well. Anyhow ... I LOVE Perrin Beers, and Look forward to an opportunity to return to Grand Rapids to visit them again!

    Do. Not. Waste. Your. Time. After waiting for a table for 2 hours, waited 90 more minutes for food. Food was cold and mediocre at best. Beer.....meh. Had no clue who our waiter was because 4 different guys wander passed our table and made lame-o excuses for lack of food. I should have just stayed at Founders.

    The beer was great. After a friend told us we had to try the burgers we did end up ordering the bbq bacon burger and the black and blue burger the taste was there but they way over cooked the meat. There was no juice to drip down and make it messy like a good burger shouldit was dry. The wait staff was great and friendly. I will go back and give them another try.

    Updated review: I hate to give a bad review, and not give someone a second chance in case it was a bad one-ff. It still a bad experience. The food was okay, the service was not. This time I sat at the bar for lunch, and when I sat down I was the only one there. When the short female bartender talked to me, she was pretty friendly. The tall one seemed like I was interrupting her conversation. When asked what they recommended on the menu they said "everything is good". At least the male bartender/ waiter recommended the Turkey Reuben as his favorite. I had the Turkey Reuben, and it wasn't too bad. It was flavorful, and fresh. I can't complain about it. I did ask for an extra side of Thousand Island dressing (not Russian), but wasn't informed it was a $0.50 upcharge. I also had a side salad. The bartender told me that it came with chips, and would that be okay. I said no, and asked if they had any other options. When she stared at me blankly, I suggested like vegetables or a side salad. She said I could have a salad... what she should've told me was I could have a salad for a $2.50 up charge. Unfortunately a few seats down, and facing around the corner, one of their friends sat down. So 4-5 bartenders and waiters hung out talking with him, one still face buried in her Starbucks. We tried 'em at night, and tried 'em at lunch. Sat on the floor and sat at the bar. As I said before... very much a locals place, and if they don't know you (or you aren't there to DRINK, although they promote how good the food is)... don't bother... Unfortunately my rating remains... this time, I won't be back :( As I said before: 1 STAR (for decent food)... BUT AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

    Stopped in for dinner while visiting family. Friday night at 645 and the place was busy with a wait that was completely reasonable. We spent maybe 20 minutes at the bar sampling some great beer before the table was ready. Food was fantastic (for bar food) and wait staff did a great job dealing with my allergy questions.

    I nearly skipped this place because of the few recent bad reviews. I am glad I looked past the few bad experiences and gave them a try anyway. First off, the brewery isn't hard to find but it is sort of off the beaten path (which is a good thing in comparison to having to find and pay for parking in downtown GR). It is near mostly a residential neighborhood and on an light industry drive. Plenty of parking and a big modern facility with hops growing outside, pretty nice. As I walked in there was a large chalkboard sign saying to "please seat yourself". That is pretty straight forward I'd say. So I sat at the bar and was immediately greeted by one of the bar staff and offered a water while I decided on food and beer. The server was very friendly and even noted my out of town growler and inquired about the brewery it was from. I picked out 5 beers from the beer menu to build my sampler with and ordered a sandwich. It took about 5 minutes and I had my beers and sandwich delivered to me. I was not expecting this fast of service from a place that had recently gotten 1 star reviews on yelp, insane! I tried the 1885 porter, the maple wheat, kona brown, grapefruit ipa and iipa (Double IPA). All were very solid and it was hard for me to pick a winner but I settled on the IIPA to come home with me in my growler. The food was very good as well. I had the pacifist sandwich with homemade chips. Overall I can say that Perrin is an excellent brewery and I am looking forward to having their beers again soon! I cannot wait for them to bottle/can their beers! I should also add I went there on a monday about 5pm.

    We stopped for lunch and to try a beer. Beers were both great as we expected. We split a Black & Blue burger and it was delicious. We did not upgrade for the fries which was fine since we had a child with us who got a grilled cheese that came with the fries so we sampled those as well. Chips? Eh. Fries? Eh. I would not pay to upgrade but I'd be disappointed with the chips. So, there is that. The grilled cheese was grilled on one side and soft on the other. Not huge for our non-picky kid, but seriously, it's a grilled cheese. We'd go back and enjoy more beers for sure.

    I give their beer 5 stars...their food gets 3, maybe even 2. If you're a vegetarian (which I am), or even a vegan, there isn't much to choose from. And what there is is mediocre. The thing is that the beer is fantastic and the atmosphere of the actual restaurant is really nice. If their food was even a little more interesting, they would be off the charts. For me though, I'd rather just get a growler to go or, rather than make the trip up Alpine (yeesh) get their beer elsewhere.

    I love that we have so many local breweries. Perrin is one of the better ones. They had a bunch of barrel aged ones. The Rye Wine, BA Russian Imprial Stout and Malted Milk Ball Stout were just amazing. I wish they were no so far out there or I'd go more often. It can get noisy at times when it is packed, which it often is. The patio, when its open, is a nice escape from the noise.

    We always have a great time at Perrin! The first time we went, I had all nine beers on tap and liked them all! EPA, imperial stout, and double IPA were my favorites. The second time they had the Nut Brown and Kona Brown on tap and both were fantastic. I really haven't tried a bad beer yet for them. I did return to drinking my double IPA though - so good! I've only had a couple of their appetizers - the onion rings and hummus - both were quite yummy and a good sized portion too! To top everything off - they have shuffleboard - that works! Another well done Michigan Brewery with great atmosphere, staff, food, and most importantly - BEER!

    If you are willing to venture outside downtown this place has some of the best beer I have ever had. Specifically, I recommend the barley wine, it is amazing! I also had the bleu burger, and while it was might good, I would recommend stellas cheeseburgers over Perrin, but the beer is far and away better here!

    For the beer, I inflate my rating. The beer, in my opinion, made up for their other misses and made it worth the trip from downtown. However, if you are not a beer drinker, you may want to pass, particularly on a busy evening or if you're coming from a distance. We came around 7:30 on a Friday night and the place was packed (as to be expected). As several other Yelpers have mentioned, there was no host/ wait list/ seat yourself sign, nothing. It's basically a free-for-all and you have to just embrace it and keep your eyes peeled for a seat, or else you will probably get pissed off. Now that you've accepted that, move on and grab a beer. We personally were approached by a great server who essentially told us the above, and offered to take a drink order if we didn't feel like going up to the bar, which we did. I got the Peace Out Stout, which was standard but very good. I was only halfway done with it once we were able to snag a table we were eyeing- you have to kind of move fast and be aggressive, since it's not really the staff's job to seat you. (I don't necessarily think that given the size of Perrin that this method is effective at all, but just giving a heads up.) Once we sat, our server was pretty attentive and it kind of seemed to be a team effort with service I think. I ordered the pacificst flatbread sandwich with a side salad, which was generously portioned and very good. I also got the Gilda's cherry beer, also excellent. I personally was satisfied with my beer and meal, but the experience was a bit chaotic. I'd recommend going on off-peak hours if you're not a fan of crowds. However it is very spacious and can accomodate a lot of people and has a pretty good atmosphere, really not that different from Founder's.

    This was our first trip to Perrin as we now live out of state but it was great!. It is nice that the building and parking seems to be built with common sense and actually has adequate space. We enjoyed all of the beer and the staff was amazing we also enjoyed both of our entrees. Hopefully you will start bottling more and distributing out of MI!

    Yes it's loud. Yes it's hard to find a table. But it's a brewery not a church. Grab a beer and wait for a table to open up. We went on Saturday around 6 and we didn't wait very long (mostly because I am a superb table stalker, hah!). I tried the Malted Milk Ball stout, the Kona, the Vanilla stout and the Russian Imperial. My favs were the Malted Milk and the Kona but all were good. My hubby got the IPA and the IIPA and liked the IPA best. I ordered the BBQ chicken on Naan bread - it was sloppy but excellent. My hubby got a beer braut and said it was good. We both loved the horseradish mustard. We will definitely go back.

    I debated over giving this place a 3 or 4, but went with a 4 because of positive past experiences. We had a table of 7 and for the most part everything was excellent. The staff was friendly and quick and the raspberry blonde beer was fantastic, but my food was less than average. I got the barbecue chicken sandwich on like a sour dough pita kind of bun and it was a disaster. It can't be eaten as is and wasn't flavorful at all. Just heaps of BBQ sauce on some chicken chunks thrown into a bland bun. Everyone else's burgers were good and the experience was good, just wish I had ordered something different.

    Perrin is worth the trip. great staff, great beer, great space, and a-ok food. It's kind of a trek out but it is completely worth it. The sample sizes are great and a fun way to see what you like. During the warmer season the entire front opens up into a patio and it's just awesome.

    It was Saturday afternoon and not very crowded when we came in but filled up quickly. Helpful sign to seat ourselves and we had a waitress and waiter immediately bring us menus and waters. Cait (our waitress) was good at explaining the beer pricing, and the food menu had quite a few selections--not extensive but more than a typical bar menu. We split the Chicken BBQ Sandwich Flatbread which was really good. The beers were not fancy but more like traditional beers. The place has a really good look and feel, we'll be back.

    Beer was ok but I think it will get better the longer they're in business. Super loud in there- even for a brewery pub. I sat at a table and my server took a really long time to greet me and service was pretty slow after that. I wish they had more food options like founders does. I'm willing to give it another try since they haven't been open long. If they don't figure it out by winter, I'm out.

    I've been to Perrin several times now, each of which was a fabulous experience. Large variety of brews and food. The fried pickles are delicious and the staff have all been very personal and welcoming. Great merchandise wall if you're looking to take home a piece of Perrin.

    Having moved here recently from Chicago, I thought I was doomed when it came to good beer and food. Perrin has restored my faith and is surely to become a regular spot for me. The service was excellent - we went around 1 pm on a Saturday and it was very busy, yet we never had to flag down our server - she was very attentive. There was also a "beer server" that would come by to check on our drinks regularly. For food, we started off with the hummus - it was really good and came with perfectly toasted slices of pita and thinly sliced cucumbers. My friend ordered the "Pacifist" (the vegetarian sandwich) and added bacon - one of the many reasons why we're friends. I had the cheese steak - perfection. I'm picky about my sandwiches - can not stand them when they are a big, soggy mess. I've had a genuine Philly cheese steak before. The ones here taste genuine, except they are served neatly. I was full after the first half of my sandwich, but I scarfed down the other half like it was my last day on death row. For beer, I started off with the Raspberry Blonde - mmm. My friend got a sample of the Chocolate Milk beer. I'm used to chocolate beers being a meal, so I skimmed right over it on the menu. I tried some of hers and it was delicious - it was light enough to where you could drink a tall one and still have plenty of room leftover for your meal. Her hubby ordered a sample of the Kona beer. Normally coffee beers are similar to chocolate beers - thick and strong. The Kona had the same lightness to it that the chocolate beer had. I could easily see myself drinking it in place of my coffee with breakfast, and then proceed to having a very unproductive day. I also tried the Lightweight and Golden Ale - both very good. I dig the location - it's as if it's in the middle of nowhere, except not. This place is going to be a mad house in the summer. I don't know if they bring in live music or not, but it would be the only thing that could make this place better.

    One day after my first visit to Perrin, I'm racking my brain but I can't think of a single thing I didn't like about it - except maybe the fact that it's so far away from my house - literally in the middle of nowhere. I was starting to think I took a wrong turn somewhere, when all of a sudden, Perrin's massive brew warehouse comes looming over the horizon. I loved the atmosphere - roomy and spacious, with huge TV's and large windows that let patrons view the entire brewing process up close. On a Sunday afternoon, there were a bunch of kids running around. I don't like small children with my beer, but I'm sure after sunset it's a different story. The wait staff was friendly, attentive and like any brew pub around here, mostly made up of burly bearded dudes. I had the hummus and sweet potato fries. Both simple dishes that are hard to mess up, but I have to say - I found myself enjoying the hell out of them. The beer, though, had to be the best part. I highly recommend the Grapefruit IPA (SO grapefruity!) and the Razzberry Blonde (tastes just like Framboise...maybe better). I'm not a hoppy beer fan, but my boyfriend is and he couldn't get enough of the IPA. I highly recommend checking out Perrin. It's definitely worth the trip.

    Almost all of the beer here is good. Some of it was spectacular, and some...well just misses the mark. Their Grapefruit IPA and Black Goat are my top 2. I take a pass on the Raspberry and the Rye Wine. I like beer that tastes like beer. The IPA rates high for having a very clean taste without a bitter aftertaste. The Black Goat, well just taste it and you will know why it is my top beer ever. Might have something to do with the ABV. Food is so so. The burger was good for a bar; nothing really special, but it was ok. The Beer brat I liked, not because the brat was all that good, but because they simmer it in their Golden Ale. It seems to make up for a mediocre cut of meat. The highlight for me was the order of Onion Rings. I like beer batter that actually tastes like beer. Given that the food looks to come out of a carnival wagon for a kitchen, they seem to deliver fairly well. It is certainly not gourmet, but for pub food, it does just fine. Its a definite must if you like good beer and are on the north end of Grand Rapids.

    We tend to drift from brewery to brewery these days. I am not a beer drinker, so I am a tag-a-long and often times the designated driver. For me, I go to enjoy the atmosphere and the food and have a good time with my beer drinking friends and family. Yes it's seat yourself, yes it's crowded. We came in on a snowy Saturday night and were able to snag a table in less than 5 minutes. It's annoying to have to swoop in and get your own table, but it really is not the end of the world. We came in with 2 kids (don't judge, they have a kid's menu for a reason) and weren't sure if it was a get in line and order food like Founders thing or what, but within a few minutes of sitting at our table had menus in our hands and were relieved to find out it was a table service. We knew who our waiter was the whole time, but it was common to have a random people just walking by and grabbing dirty glasses and stuff from us. This was very welcome as I hate having a cluttered, dirty table. So our food shows up and the kids are thrilled with their chicken strips and fries. My son fell in love with their BBQ sauce and I must say it was amazing! My husband had a bleu cheese burger that he loved. Me, I ordered the turkey Reuben. It was good, but it wasn't amazing good. The bread was more like toasted than grilled. Something was just a little different about it. If we go back I'll definitely be picking something else off the menu. After many beer samples, food, and a growler to go, we were pleased that our total was reasonable and everyone left happy.

    I dont understand the poor reviews. I've never had bad service or a bad meal. The burgers are among the best. I can't break away from the Olive Burger though, it's a nice messy burger! Keep in mind, Perrin is a brewery first and a restaurant second. it's going to be a little loud - it a beer hall. Keep your kids at home. The beer.. well, let's just say they do a great job with the beer. Find a style you like and you wont be disappointed.

    Four of us decided to check out the new Perrin brewing company in Comstock. The drive from Grand Rapids was a little long (~20 mins) and the location of the brewery was a little sketchy. However, once we arrived we were very pleased. Like others have said, the place looks a lot like Founders from the outside. Inside though the view is quite different. The place is huge with plenty of comfortable seating. There are tables to your right and left as you enter and there's even heated seating under the huge garage doors. The place was packed and was buzzing with action at 8pm on Friday which was a little surprising. After a short wait, our waitress came with the beer and food menu. The beer menu is split into different tiers with the only recognizable differentiating factor being the price. The four of us got the Nut brown ale, IPA, Raspberry Blonde, and Stout. All beers were delicious and tasted like they were made with care and research. The Raspberry Blonde was the only one which didn't taste as sweet as the server advertised it to be. Next comes the food. Getting the attention of our waitress to order food was an adventure in itself. After passing by us several times over the course of 30 minutes, we just had no choice but to start waving our hands and saying "excuse me" to get her attention. We ordered the homemade chips with trailer sauce and naan bread with cheese. The homemade chips tasted really good with the trailer sauce even though the sauce was barely enough for half the chips. The naan tasted good but the cheese tasted more like the cheap nacho cheese you get at the movies. All in all it was a good experience at Perrin. They need to get the waitress wearing striped shirt on Friday a little trained on looking interested at her job and checking on her patrons often. The beer selection is great but they should really increase their sauces portions. I really hope they were located within a 10 minute drive from downtown unlike the mundane 20 min drive to middle of nowhere.

    Getting Better All The Time I used to think this place was little more than a big money microbrew specializing in watery, boring beers. Seriously, I thought opening a place serving bland beer in Founder's back yard was pure suicide, especially in Grand Rapids. I thought it would be like a place in New York City serving second rate pizza or drab corned beef sandwiches and wondering why they are In Chapter 7 ten months later. However, they are now brewing some pretty decent beers. I figured this place was doomed to close in about a year and become Kent County's biggest moose lodge, but I think they realized craft beer drinkers actually want taste and mouthfeel in their beer, not just slightly colored bubbly water. I am glad they are coming around.

    Been here 3 times now, and each time the service has improved. Really impressive inside and out, it reminds me a lot like the design of Founders, yet there isn't that echo filled environment. Beers are mostly on the hoppy end, which is fine with me, and very solid. Nut Brown is a new one that I really liked. Growler fills are very reasonable, price wise. The only beer I really didn't enjoy was their cream ale, just reminding me of a Budweiser. Overall great brews though. The food menu although limited has some real nice options. They look like their trying to keep it local as possible, which is always good to see. I have only had their burger and I love it! You can tell the meat is fresh and the pretzel style bun is tasty as well. Sweet pottato fries are great, onion rings are decent nothing special. Great place to unwind and enjoy some great brews and excellent food.

    Very nice decor, unfortunately I could only grab a couple of growlers for the road. Had the chance to taste their Grapefruit IPA! It was incredible and actually had it with breakfast at friendly tavern in Empire, MI. Just had to get more so road trip to Comstock Park! Staff was incredibly helpful. Just wish I would have been able to stay and sample the other offerings and food and their great selection of beer. I will be back to enjoy an evening at Perrin!

    Excellent representation of Michigan craft beer. Service was exceptional. I was greeted and given water almost immediately. There were 3-4 people that checked in periodically. Food paired well with the beer. Food was served warm and flavored well. I would return again. Serveral varieties of beer available including barrel aged and high gravity. Be sure to sample a few. Clean restrooms and large seating area.

    While visiting friends in MI in July we were lucky enough to find this gem! Kind of out of the way (think business park). But totally worth it. I fell in love with their Grapefruit IPA...which is saying something as I normally shiver at the mere thought of tasting any IPA Beers. The fried pickles were good, my son enjoyed his corn dog...though how does one go wrong with that?! I would recommend a visit to locals for sure. I'm praying they decide to bottle and distribute the IPA! Yum!

    Very busy on a Tuesday evening. Wait staff was numerous and inattentive. You have to seek out someone who will pay attention to you. We had the 1885 Porter and Grapefruit IPA. Porter was thin and not very exciting, expected more body and complexity from the way it was written up on the menu. Grepefruit IPA was not an IPA but a fruit beer. It was good just misrepresented. Waited too long for a Rueben sandwich, which I liked but my wife didn't. This place seemed like it was a Founders wanna be with out the vibe or staff. Founders does a better job with less people. Bit of a drive but still it was filled on a Tuesday. Hope they work out the brewing and staff issues I've read about. Potential as a big player. Maybe it was planned out too carefully and big, needs to grow into its britches.

    Food was great! Beer too. A little too noisy.... if the wirked a little on acoustics, the place would be unbeatable!!

    Been here four times now, and just not into the beers. None of them really stand out and pop to me. I'm a big fan of Founders, Bells, and New Holland, but I think Perrin has a lot of catching up to do if they want to get on par with them. The food is pretty good but the service is a complete mess. Not for lack of good wait staff but you have two different servers dealing with beer and food. This of course has lead to a complete mess every time I and friends have ordered food. The bright side is that their food is very good.

    Their beer is really good. The food I would skip their green chile burger. Was very greasy and kind of tasteless. Their Fried pickles are really good, as well as their French fries. If you just order those they give you a real big portion of the fries. The buffalo chicken sandwich was really good as well. Whatever they use to make that buffalo sauce makes it really tasty, don't think ever tasted buffalo sauce like that before. We had to wait a long time to get our food though. Not sure why maybe because someone had a wedding party there and they were more important than us.

    We took some friends here and had a great evening. The beer here is really great, if not fantastic. The atmosphere is loud and happening (potentially a little too loud-I'd recommend they look at some sound dampening hanging ceiling tiles as the acoustics in this place can make it tough to have a conversation). I had their special burger (breakfast burger with egg, potato cake, bacon, ham, cheese) and was impressed. The salads looked good. The waiter waved us off the shepard's pie (thanks for the honesty). I think the food here has good potential and they should consider expanding the menu into some international ethnic food (as the range of offerings was limited) while keeping the typical American burger as it was good. The service was excellent and our waiter (Kevin) was friendly and really on top of things. the decor is modern/industrial and for an "off-the-beaten" path location this gem is definitely worth a trip. Recommend for family (kids over 10) and friends or after work gatherings, but not for business meetings, well unless your business is drinking beer!

    We had a very strange experience. We arrived at 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday night. The place was busy and seats were scarce. We were told by an employee we could go upstairs as there were no private parties scheduled. Had friendly service from our waitress up until the time our food arrived. As we were given our food, we were advised that we were in a reserved section and that we could not stay. We explained what had happened to both our waitress and some other person and aked what we were supposed to do. We were left alone and about 8 minutes later we were told to finish our meal, it was on the house. We never spoke to our waitress again, nobody asked us if our meals were satisfactory or offered us additional drinks. My companion finished his water mid-meal and his glass was simply removed from the table by a busboy. Clearly, we were expected to get out as soon as possible. We would have gladly moved somewhere else or otherwise helped to resolve the situation. We received a free meal but we were made to feel like it was our fault and the waitress and other woman who dealt with us were just plain rude. It really was an unpleasant experience. The food is just bar food and there is better beer in Grand Rapids. We won't be back.

    Good beer. I recommend the Razzberry Blonde. Good food. Although when I pay $3.75 for a corn dog I expect it to be a huge one like you would get at a festival or something, but it was just a normal corn dog. I thought the prices for other things were a bit high too.But the service was great. Our waitress was always coming to check on us and she was very nice. It was extremely loud though. I could barely hear what the people at my table were saying. I guess that's expected at a place like this though. Overall I liked it.

    Truly great beer, slow service. Not a large food menu. It's all about the beer. I would love to create the menu to go with the absolutely wonderful beer. Nice ambience. Great location.

    Ya just can't go wrong. It's usually packed. Food is awesome! (Sweet Potato fries-YUM!) Nice atmosphere and decent service. Can be loud. Need some sound absorption on the walls.

    Our experience was very good. The food was very good even though it is not the main attraction. The sweet potato fries were good and crispy. I had the french dip equivalent and it was delicious. My wife had the burger. The beer was great. I had the Island of Tonga Porter and my wife had the Black Ale. Both were stupendous. The service was very good. Our waitress answered our questions about some food allergy issues we have (a son with Celiacs) and was very attentive. We brought our own gluten free bun and they understood the need to keep his food away from other items with wheat. Not a GF kitchen, but they accommodated us where they could.I highly recommend this brewery.
